Continental Airlines has sold its stake in Houston based regional carrier Expressjet. Continental held a stake of around 53 percent in ExpressJet in 2002, but has steadily disposed of its holdings in the airline since an IPO.
ExpressJet currently offers services between 24 US cities including flights to Los Angeles, and will continue to act as a partner for Continental Airlines on many regional services within the western USA.
At the time of the sale, Continental Airlines was the third argest shareholder ExpressJet Airlines, it will retain a small holding in Expressjet as leverage to maintain a relationship on codesharing and feeder services.
