In a move that is certain to provoke heavy criticism from passengers, British Airways has announced that it is to introduce charges of up to GBP240 for passengers to check in additional bags on long haul flights. The new policy will come into effect from 13th February.
Industry insiders have claimed that the British Airways decision to impose additional charges could potentially cause a ripple effect throughout the airline industry, and see more carriers impose the fees if they feel that they can get away with it.
The charges released by British Airways are as follows:
Long Haul, such as flights to Dubai, GBP240 per additional bag.
Short Haul, such as flights to Amsterdam, GBP120 per additional bag.
Domestic, such as flights to London, GBP60 per additional bag.
