A spokesman for British Airways has revealed that the airline is set to announce its decision about fleet renewal within the next few weeks, although no details of whether the airline would be purchasing Boeing or Airbus aeroplanes were released in the statement.
Willie Walsh, the CEO of British Airways announced last year that the airline was considering a number of options about replacing its long haul fleet over the next few years. Both of the major aircraft manufacturers are keen to gain the prestigious order, which could run to more than a hundred planes.
Although British Airways has traditionally been linked with Boeing, and uses the iconic 747 on many routes including flights to New York, it could be tempted by the larger and more efficient Airbus A380, and would expect a significant discount on any aircraft it buys due to the volume being considered.
