Amongst the many museums and galleries celebrating the lives of Finland's great and good such as the composer Sibelius and Aalto the architect, the most imposing and impressive is the stunning Kiasma, the Museum of Contemporary Art, which was designed by Steven Holl, and resembles a sculpture itself. It displays around 4,000 works of at any one time, and has a great café to rest in between seeing the works of art.
Helsinki Zoo is both one of the oldest in the world, and also the most northerly. Predictably, the zookeepers haven't stocked up with that many tropical animals, but do have the most successful snow leopard breeding programme in the world, and these beautiful big cats are a highlight of any visit.
