South Africa is a country that encourages participation in sports, and throughout the country, there are plenty of opportunities to get active, and join in with something during your stay.
The coastal areas of the country offer excellent water sports, in particular in Durban, where there is great surfing off the coast that attracts world-class competitors to tournaments throughout the year. Table Mountain above Cape Town and the Drakensburg Mountains have great rock climbing, and other adrenaline fuelled activities on offer, while the wilderness areas are great for horse riding and mountain biking.
Golf fans coming to South Africa will be pleasantly surprised by the great value and choice on offer at the many golf courses throughout the country, in particular at Sun City, and just outside Durban.
Aside from all of the above, the South Africans are avid fans of Cricket and Rugby, and their national sides regularly compete with the British teams in test matches.
The FIFA World Cup will be held in South Africa in 2010, and football is already becoming increasingly popular throughout the country in anticipation of the tournament.
