Sri Lanka Currency in Sri Lanka foreign exchange rates

What is the Currency in Sri Lanka? Find out what type of money or foreign currency you will need when travelling to Sri Lanka. Learn about foreign exchange rates, Banking, Currency & Taxes...

The local currency is the Sri Lankan Rupee, although you will find that credit cards are accepted in hotels and major cities like Colombo and Kandy, and you can get cash advances from ATMs with some Visa cards.

Sri Lanka is excellent value for money, and on the whole you should expect to pay well under £10 per person for a meal before you add on drinks. Increasingly, restaurants will add on a 10% service charge to the bill, so tipping is not necessary, although porters, and cab drivers expect a little extra.

On the whole, prices tend to be negotiable and a friendly haggle over a cup of tea is part of the local life style, but you offend people if you go too low or get too indignant. Treat it as a bit of fun, and you find that you sill get more off than you bargained for(!)
