To the north of Manila, Mount Pinatubo towers above the town of Angeles and was the sight of one of the largest and most violent volcanic eruptions in modern years.
It takes about two hours to get to Angeles, and once there, a scene of almost total devastation caused by the falling ash awaits you. There used to be an American Air Force base here, now its just open space, with a few odd shaped lumps that used to be aeroplanes.
