The passionate Italians pride themselves on having one of the best football leagues in the world (although they'd claim that Serie A is the best), and most of the major cities have at least one team in it. The football season in Italy runs from September through until May, and tickets for most games can be bought while in the country - although the most popular local derbies sell out months in advance.
The country that brought Ferrari and Lamborghini cars to the world is also host to 2 Formula One races: The Italian Grand Prix at the Monza circuit near to Milan, and the San Marino Grand Prix which takes place at the Imola Circuit close to San Marino.
Italy also play in the Six Nations rugby tournament, and hotels in Rome tend to be very busy on the dates when the country play their home matches during March and April.
