The second city of Brazil is the one that draws millions of tourists every year keen to experience the myriad attractions on offer. Located on the Atlantic Coast of Brazil around 300KM from Sao Paolo, the Marvellous City as Rio de Janeiro is often known has legendary beaches, every glitzy shop you can imagine, the huge statue of Christ the Redeemer, and a Carnaval that is probably the world's biggest party and has to be seen to be believed.
There are also museums, parks and galleries that house excellent collections of art from around the world.
Rio is divided into two cities by the Sierra da Carioca- a mountain range that are contained within the area of tropical rainforest that makes up the National Park of Tijuca. Zona Sul to the south is where the beaches and many of the attractions are. Zona Norte to the north is the poorer industrial area with less to offer to the Tourist although it does house some of the best museums, notably the Museo Nacional and also the cone shaped landmark building the Catedral Metropolitana, both of which are huge tourist draws.
