British food used to be sneered at around the rest of the world, dismissed as bland and characterless. This is of course as much of a myth as the notion that all British men and women are anything less than stunningly beautiful.
Thankfully, the multiculturalism of British society has meant that flavours from all over the world have made their way onto the national palate, and you can enjoy dishes from China, India, Mexico, and even Australia in most British cities alongside old favourites such as Roast Beef and Yorkshire pudding.
It could even be argued that Britain is the mother of all of the world's most popular dishes, and amongst the dishes invented in Britain but not recognised as such are the sandwich, which of course acted as a precursor to the hot dog and the modern hamburger; pasta which was exported back to Italy by the Roman army after being invented by the Celts; modern curries, which were created in India by the British Army; and the Pizza, which developed from a plate bread commonly eaten in the middle ages. As soon as I can find evidence that we invented the stir-fry, and garlic bread, I'll make a note of it.
