Taking a further step towards a greener environment, Air France have signed an agreement with GoodPlanet that will allow passengers to make a contribution towards the offsetting of carbon emissions created by their flight.
GoodPlanet will use the contributions made by Air France passengers to implement tree planting activities, projects that utilise renewable energy and ongoing energy conservation. This development links in with the CO2 calculator Air France added to their website a couple of months ago, the two now able to work hand in hand to firstly calculate the ecological cost to each passenger of their flight and then to provide a means of countering its effects.
Air France is one of the largest airlines in the world so the financial contribution to green projects is expected to be huge, paid for by the passengers themselves of course. Travellers on flights to Paris for example may make a contribution of a few pounds or so, money that will be used for the first projects that are being carried out. These include the production of clean coal in Senegal and the installation of bio-gas tanks in China.
